Glycolic Peels: Simple Facts about Skin Care

If you are trying to decide what you should do based on your skin type here is a little information that might make the decision making process easier.

Microdermabrasion has been around for a while and is widely used. Some experts say that it has served its purpose but, because of new research, technology and a better understanding of the cellular process growth and deterioration, it has outlived its effectiveness and is being surpassed.

Microdermabrasion shows immediate visible results however, it does nothing on a cellular level and it therefore has no lasting benefit. Microdermabrasion often leaves your skin raw and irritated as the procedure removes not only dead skin cells but new living cells as well.

Botox is another procedure that has gained popularity over the last eight years. Many people are hesitant because of the invasive nature of the procedure. The procedure calls for the injecting of a form of botulism into the designated skin to temporarily deaden the nerve causing the crease in the epidermis. This procedure, though popular is losing momentum because of its inability to repair. It does nothing on a cellular level and the crease, wrinkle or line generally reappears within 6 to 12 weeks after the first treatment and sooner after subsequent treatments.

Chemical Peels when done by an experienced and knowledgeable professional can achieve results similar to those of a mini face lift without the down time, high cost and potential pain of a surgical procedure.

The advantages of the service are immediate visible results, repair to skin cells on a cellular level, immediate improvement in skin clarity, reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, increase in elasticity (tightening effect to the epidermis), reduction of hyper pigmentation (discoloration of the skin),and reduction in pore size. Glycolic peels properly performed in a series by an expert generally result in no down time.

What Chemical Peel and Why?

There are various types of peels that are available to the salon professional. Only by seeing and evaluating your specific skin type can the proper peel be chosen and customized for you. A personal consultation and evaluation is mandatory to achieve optimum peel results.

Glycolic is derived from pure sugar cane and has the smallest molecule of all the peels on the market; the smaller the molecule the deeper the penetration. The deeper penetration has a greater ability to restructure the epidermis on a cellular level.

A Saylic Peel has a larger molecule which does not penetrate as deeply. It is used in the treatment of acne prone skin. The peel is designed to combat and dry out the acne which is closer to the surface.
